Dr Willem was schooled in the midlands of Natal, and then moved to Pretoria where he attended TUKS and obtained his MBChB.
Thereafter Dr Willem travelled the country and the United Kingdom working as a medical officer in various fields ranging from, Paediatric Trauma, Medicine, General Surgery, but once he found the field of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery his mind was set.
Dr Willem spent the following six years working at first in a training post in General Surgery in Groote Schuur and Red Cross Children's hospital where he did a very long time doing Burns in children, but had to leave Cape Town for the big city lights of Johannesburg to attend WITS to further himself as a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon.
At WITS Dr Willem learned from the best to be a Reconstructive Surgeon, and when he wasn't required to be in the long hallways of "The Gen" or "Bara", he was assisting the best Cosmetic Surgeons in Johannesburg to watch and learn from them.
Once his training was completed, he remained on at the WITS Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery department as a consultant, to teach young plastic surgeons for some time doing state and private work.
Dr Willem moved to Cape Town in mid 2011, into private, and joined the Renaissance Body Science Institute, where he worked closely with the world famous facial Plastic Surgeon Des Fernandes. At the RBSI his focus is on Cosmetic surgery doing, faces, breasts, body reshaping and hand surgery.
Although he is mainly involved with Cosmetic work, Dr Willem still has a keen interest in skin cancers, and general reconstruction, so in order to do so divides his time so he can do Pro Bono work for Operation Smile (www.operationsmile.org.uk) repairing children with Clefts in underdeveloped countries, amounts other things he also works in government hospitals where he is required.
